NEVER underestimate the comfort and joy that a teddy can bring to a child.

The Lions Club of Scone haven’t, as they make their way around town as part of “Operation Teddy Bear” – delivering beautiful Lions teddies to be given to children affected by trauma, violence or facing bad experiences.

Scone Lions president Maria Musumeci said the initiative began 30 years ago but it’s a first for Scone.

“It was started by one of Victorian Lions Clubs,” she said.

“The Scone Lions has already delivered the bears to The Ambulance Service, Scone Police, Scone Hospital and Scone Court House.

“It will be an ongoing thing, as we are hoping to continue to supply the bears when required.”

Last year, almost 3,000 bears were delivered to anxious children whose homes have been burglarised, toddlers about to undergo serious operations and young people whose lives have been dramatically affected by violence, trauma and bad experiences that come before the courts thanks to the initiative.

Scone Lion John Musumeci said just being able to hug one of these bears can make all the difference and bring a lot of comfort to a young person.

The local club runs numerous ongoing projects and fundraising activities.

“Of course we are always inviting anyone in the public to come have a meal at one of our meetings or anyone interested in becoming a member to contact us,” Mr Musumeci said.

Anyone interested in attending one of the club’s dinners to meet current members can contact Maria on 0407452544 or Robert Thurgood on 65452201.
